Adelaide Beaches

Catch the tram from Victoria Square to Glenelg, a lovely sandy beach on Adelaide’s doorstep. The historic 1929 trams have been beautifully restored and are part of the experience of a day at the seaside. Easily accessible from Adelaide, only 11km south west of the city, Glenelg is reminiscent of English seaside towns with its jetty, fish and chips, and fairground rides, but is contemporary and fashionable in its range of cafés and shops. Or go a little bit further to quieter Brighton Beach. Either way, you can swim, snorkel, windsurf, hire a bike or just laze in the sun. Glenelg also has a Visitor Information Centre, with 24-hour touchscreen information.

There’s plenty of opportunity to sail in Gulf St Vincent, and excellent swimming and snorkelling at a variety of beaches along the gulf. At Glenelg there’s an artificial reef for practising your diving skills. However, there are occasional stories of white pointer sharks being seen in this area!
